Alisha Learnt A Lesson

"Happy birthday! Happy birthday!" said Alisha's father and mother.
Alisha smiled as she looked at the beautiful bicycle, her father and mother had just just given her. "It's just great. Thank you, Dad and Mom", she said, as she smiled at bothe of them. Alisha wanted to go off for a trial run. But her mother told her, "First take your bath and get ready them you can go for a ride on your bicycle."

Alisha rushed towards the bathroom and withim a minute, she was ready wearing new clothes, "Come here for a minute, daughter. Mom and I have a few things to tell you", her father said lovingly placing his hand on Alisha's back.

Alisha's stomach churned. Her mind said all sort of things. Things like, "Oh! no, here we go again. Rules ! I kn ow, they are coming. "Slowly, she walked along behindd her parents to the big front garden. She thought, "Does Dad need to make such a big thing of it ? Such a scene on my eleventh birthday ! I'm not a baby now!"

"Daughter", Dad began ''We must ask you to stay on the side roads between home and your school whenever you go out." "Yeah, sure", said Alisha as she got up. Her father said, "Wait a minute, daughter", You are never to leave trhe bouse without first telling us where you are going and with whom. Do you understand?" Yeah, sure", she understood but Dad hadn't finished yet. "Another most important thing, did you hear, never go on the highway." "Yeah, promise", she said. "They don't trust me. They don't realize, I'm grown up and can take care of myself now. I wish they'd given me the bicycle and just let me prove how big I really am." This she thought but this is, what she said, "Sure, I understand and I'll keep in mind."

Dad went to work and Mom went inside. The highway was few blocks away and for several hours, Alisha enjoyed riding along the atreets near her house. At last, thired of enjoying her new bicycle by herself, she thought of her friend. But Alas! Her friend lived across the highway and Dad had asked her not to cross it. Should she disobey her father? Would that be good for her ?

But what about telling Mom ? She went home to tell her mom. she wasn't in the house. "must be oiver at the house next door", She thought. "Since she isn't here, surely it wont matter if I don't tell her." And off she sped down the road to the highway.

"It's safe enough and easy enough if you look both ways and then hurry across",She whispered to herself. Soon she was at Honey's house. She shouted loudly, "Honey, Honey! Her friend Honey came out running to see her friend Alisha."

Honey wished him "Happy Birthday" and then they both started enjoying the ride of the vew bicycle of Alisha.

After an hour, Honey's mother gave them some biscuits and chocolates to eat. "Thank you aunty", said Alisha. "Now I must rush back to my mother. She must have come back from the home next door!" She thought, "Well, I'd better go home now." She said to her friend and headed towards the highway. Alisha was having fun and in this way passed her birthday. Gloomy thoughts began to fill her mind. Now, she was in a hurry to get back home before someone discovered where she had gone. As she rode onto the highway, she glanced quickly this way and that. "Easy enough', she thought. "I'll just dash across and none would ever know. I was on the other side of the highway.'

When she had reached the centre of the road, she saw a car heading straight towards her. She turned fast trying to steer the bicycle in the other direction but a huge truck was speeding towards her from that side of the highway.

She looked back and her eyes caught the eyes of true lady on the passenger side of the car. Then, she could see the driver trying to save her. He made a sharp turn to the left, which made the car go off the road and into the ditch that she couldn't tell her what the trouble was. She ran to her bedroom, kicked teh door and rolled on her bed sobbing.

The truck driver got out of his truck and ran back to see if he could save anyone. The people inside the car were not hurt so he helped them crawl out through the car windows.

There were three people; the driver, his wife and their son. The son had been asleep when the accident took place and he was now very frightened. Just them, Alisha's father came by. He saw Alisha's new cycle
laid on the road so he rushed over to the people, "Where's Alisha?"He cried out. "Where is the girl who was on the bicycle ?" "She has run away", said the truck driver. He explained everything to Alisha's father. It was very hot. The people of the car had to make a report and arrange to pull their car out of the ditch. Alisha's fater asked the woman and the littel boy came to his house, she slowly came into the living room and said "I'm sorry. It was my fault. Became, I disobeyed my father and went across the highway. I have put you to an accident. Will you please forgi me ?

I've learnt a big lesson today,"

They smiled at Alisha and said, "We have already forgiven you. We are sure, you would never forget this lesson,"
