In earlier days, men and women were bought and sold like cattle and animals. They were called slaves. These poor slaves didn't enjoy any rights. They were called slaves. These poor slaves didn't enjoy any the hands of their master. They were no better than bonded labourers.
Once, there liced a slave in Rome named Andry. His master used to beat him daily. He used to scold him for no reason. Nither he was given him proper food to eat nor was given him any appreciation. Andry could not bear all these. One night when all were fast asleep, he ran away from his master;s hoiuse.
After walking all noght, finally, he came to a forest. As, was very tired and also afraid of being caught by king's men, he hid himself in a cave nearby.
Abig and ferocious lion lived in that cave. It had gone out for hunting. The lion came back in the morning.
When Andry heard the roar of the lion, he was frightened. He was alraid byt to his surprise. the lion did't make any approach towards Andry. It was roaring loudly. Andry noticed a thorn in its paw due to which it was roaring in pain. Andry pulled out the thorn and treated the lion's wound. Thus, the man and the beast became friends. They started living together.
One day, when the lion was out for hunting, Andry was caught by some Roman soldiers. They arrested him and took him to their king. He was kept in shackles for five days. On the sixth day, he was to be thrown in the open theatre in front of a hungry lion.
The great day came. The theatre was thronged by people and the king was sitting on his throne. Pepole were sitting with their cold hearts.
Andry was brought and thrown into the theater. Pepole held their breath in anxiety. They were eager to see, what would happen when the big door of the cage would open. The beast would come out and tear Andry into pieces.
The gathered peop;e wanted to see, how the lion would kill the slave. Such sights always gave them much excitement.
Andry was in chains. The king's men opened the iron cage of the ferocious lion as soon as the king signalled them.
The lion jumped out of the cage with a loud roar. Andry closed his eves in fear.
But, the lion behaved very strangely.

Instead of tearing him, it started licking his hands. Andry opened his eyes. What did he seea ?
He saw the beast standing there. He recognized it at once. It was his old friend, the same lion with whom he had spent so much time together.
The king and the prople were filled with surprise. Andry told them the story of his friendship with the lion. The king was really taken abck. He felt very sorry for what, he did. He also gave him the lion as a gift.
Andry started living in the king's city with his lion. But now, he was free. He worked hard and earned his livelihood. People aften saw him going round the city with his lion. They would wish Andry and affer garlands to the lion.
