Lovee was an orphan boy. He did not know the name of his father. His orphanage. There were twenty-nine other orphans under the supervision of a lady,
Mrs Mehta. This orphanage received seven and a government. Mrs Mehta was clever enough to use the major part of the money for her very little of food to live on. Their personal use.
The children were given meal was three meals of watery soup a day, an onion twice a week and half a cake on Sunday!
One day, all the children gathered at one place and a meeting was held. "Who would walk up to the master and ask for more food?"
said one of the children. Finally, the responsibility fell on Lovee's shoulders. Then, it arrived the great evening when Lovee was to perform his role. The other children took their places. The master was in his cook's dress with his two assistants beside the huge pot. The soup was served out.
However, in no time, it was finished. The children looked up at each other and made signal to Lovee.
Lovee rose from his seat, walked up to the master and requested, "Sir, I want a little more, please."
"What ? You want more ? Did you say that ?" shouted the master who was a fat and helthy man. "Yes, Sir", replied Lovee. "I want more soup." This was more than struck it hard on Lovee's head.
Holding Lovee in hard on Lovee's head Holding Lovee in his arms tight, he cried out for Mr Mehta and Mrs Mehta.
Mr mehta caught hold of the boy and dragged him to Mr Taparia. Mr Taparia was the chief patron of the orphanage. He was at taht time busy attending an important meeting with some other members.
"Excuse me, sir", Mr Mehta said to Mr Taparia. "Lovee has asked for more."
" What more ?" Mr. Taparia asked. "Does it mean, he needed more soup after eating the food ? "
" You are right,Sir. The boy must be hanged", Mr. Mehta said. Lovee thius met his fate. He was beaten basly and locked up in a room. Next morning, there was a notice on the gate. The children were surprised to read the notice.
The content of the notice was :
'This is to notify the public in general that a reward of five pounds will be offered to anyone who takes Lovee off the hands of the orphanage.
Children! This is just not the end of the story of Lovee who asked for more soup. This Lovee later became a renowned writer known as Charles Dickehns,
Charles Dickens wrote in his novels and short stories about social problems the plight of urban poor, corruption and social injustice. Some of his famous novels include Lovee, Nicolas Nicolaby, Blank House, Great Expectation and David Copperfield.
Charles Dickens was born in 1812 in London, He died in 1870. But before his death, he gave much more to the world as an autho.
